    Woods on the Paine Estate, Waltham, MA. Justin Farley’s poem, where “Walking through the forest” offers paths to well-being, including calming chaotic thoughts parallels the mood in this quilt.

As I age, I’m rather aware of time. I was fascinated the way growth rings tell such a full story of the tree’s life. I was also taken aback to realize this revelation marks the tree’s death.

    Inspired by Howard Nemerov’s poem, “The Consent.” Nemerov, as a professor, and I, as a student experienced the gingko walk at Washington University. The format is based on a Buddhist temple banner.

    Based on a poem by Basho: "There Is Nothing You Can See/That Is Not a Flower/There Is Nohing You Can Think/That Is Not the Moon." Stitched indigo shibori is a perfect technique for the moonflowers I love to grow, as well as moons.

    Finding the Japanese characters for the seasons inspired this quilt. Japan's fifth season can be New Years.

    Some world-wide plant sources of indigo. The murex shell was a source of an ancient blue dye that oddly has a similar chemistry to the plants.
