Hand dyed (shibori)cottons
in indigo, hand quilted and framed
Blue mussels are the perfect subject for indigo dyeing. These are small framed whole cloth quilts. The water patterns are created by tightly gathering up stitched lines in the fabric. Knots create the circles and the white shells are "capped off" to resist the dye. Shibori and indigo were made for each other.
