I. Assigned Roll of Film
Students will shoot at least one roll of film with 24 exposures.
More is optional. If you don’t have a camera, a disposable is fine.
The snapshots should be taken and developed BEFORE the workshop begins.
Use the six categories below as a guide, so a roll of 24 will give you
4 of each category. You can switch views for each frame or just change
the viewpoint looking at the same subject. If you already have similar
photos, you don’t need to shoot a new roll, but the photos should
not be taken by someone else.
1. put a maximum of 8 objects on a table
(a chance to create still lifes or is it lives?)
2. a view out a window
3. a corner of a room
4. a view down a street
5. a landscape looking into the distance
(ocean, river, fields, mountains, whatever)
6. a landscape with objects closer to you
(a backyard, enclosed garden, etc.)
II. Enlarged Copies
Students will pick a minimum of 4 snapshots from the above roll...whichever
you like best. Then photocopy these favorites in black and white, 2 copies
each, as large as possible on 11” x 17” paper. If you like,
make the image even larger by enlarging the 11”x17” copies.
This will require working with sections and cutting and pasting them together,
since 11”x17” is the maximum standard copy size.
III. What to Bring to Class
the original snapshots
the 11" x 17" photocopy enlargements
