INTRODUCTION TO INDIGO WORKSHOP:
SUPPLY LIST (1 Day Workshop)

The focus of this workshop will be the indigo process. While the indigo sets up, we’ll prepare some fabric to dye in shibori patterns from various world traditions. We’ll prepare and maintain smaller vats that are more practical for most people’s time and space. Synthetic indigo mimics the original plant source and assures results.

Bring the following to class:
15” squares of untreated 100% cotton, washed and pressed. Bring 8-9 squares, totals about 1 ½ yds

Sewing needles, thimble if you use one
Embroidery-sized scissors (not your best) or thread snips; seam ripper (optional)
A pencil
A small spray bottle

Thread:  stronger than regular sewing thread, e.g. button & carpet, upholstery, etc.
Waxed dental floss, any flavor
Very small rubber bands
A few pebbles, beans or marbles
Clothespins (12-16, plastic or wooden, the ones with moving parts)

A large trash bag
An old towel
Plastic bags (to take home inevitably damp fabric)
Rubber Gloves (a la Playtex)
Surgical weight rubber gloves

Wear old clothes. Please bring any interesting shibori or indigo fabrics you’d like to share.  There is an $3.00 materials fee.
